The 2011 JayCW Memorial Picnic
The Fourth Annual JayCW Memorial Picnic was held on May 28, 2011. Beautiful weather once again graced Delta Lake State Park in Rome, NY for the entire event.
Immediately catching everyone's eye this year were the two enormous printings of the photos of Jason that were used at the first picnic. Made by Jason Gulla of Gulla's Graphics in Rome, the ruggedly constructed four-foot square prints will be the centerpiece of our presentations for years to come.
A friendly rivalry has developed between the makers of the prize baskets given away in our raffles. The amount of time, effort, and money invested into 'one-upping' the previous year's offerings has resulted in an exponential growth in funds raised, as people also compete with tickets purchased to win these amazing prizes.
The 2011 entertainment portion of the picnic was a showcase for the Fleming family. Brothers Bob, Paul, and Gene Fleming anchored the day's music as they shared the stage with various guests, including Bob's children Erin, Tommy, and Joey Fleming. Nick Visalli and Kevin Sullivan, two of Jason's bandmates, played an acoustic sampling of their songs and also led a group rendition of 'Let It Be'.
The several Fund recipients in attendance this year were recognized for their courage as they and their families continued down the uncertain road of treatment and recovery. This has become the highlight of the picnic, as the value of the mission of the Jason Christopher Wilhelm Scholarship Fund is shown in human terms to both donors and recipients.
Thank you to all the sponsors, volunteers, and attendees of this year's picnic. We look forward to the 2012 Memorial Picnic, and hope to continue to benefit from the generosity of those who support the Jason Christopher Wilhelm Scholarship Fund.
